It looks like the gun fell into the gutter when they hit the ground and the guy was in a better position to retrieve it. Because it doesn't look like they are actively fighting over the gun anymore after they land in the street until he shoots her. Or im just fucking blind lol

They momentarily stopped fighting over the firearm because the adrenaline was wearing off and the man was beginning to feel the effects of being shot multiple times. It looks like he leaned on her so she couldn't move, and then when she freed herself, he got a second wind and finished her.
