Re: A Woman Died and Her Companion Was Injured in an Assault
I'm guessing while they were driving along someone's come up on a bike behind or alongside and shot into the vehicle (the woman has got entry wounds in her back) and a stray bullet has hit the driver making them crash.

It would be nice to get more of the back story on this one. Maybe someone's past caught up with them, botched robbery, or a jealous ex. |

Re: A Woman Died and Her Companion Was Injured in an Assault
I apologize for my tendency to be "emoji adverse" when I post. If they had an emoji for sarcasm, I would surely use it! I found it ironic that WM posed the question given that the guy taking the video talks about the casing for several seconds while he is pointing directly to it. Don't get me wrong, but that could indicate that someone was shot. I'm sure WM realized the same thing after he posted, and hope he was not offended. Those of us who frequently use sarcasm realize that we run the risk of looking like idiots should our response be interpreted literally. This is especially when it turns out that we're wrong. Case in point. In my previous post, I directed my sarcasm toward what I perceived to be a chaotic and unprofessionally managed crime scene. Any semi-competent defense attorney here in the States would have a field day if someone handed them a video showing a group of cadets dressed in T shirts/shorts wandering around a road and using rocks & leaves to mark the evidence as other vehicles are driving through the crime scene. In retrospect, I arrogantly assumed that our accepted practice of using numbered plastic markers to process any evidence must be superior. Then I came to the realization that their system may actually be much more advanced. What if placing the leaf next to the rock indicates that the evidence may have been planted? If so, they may be categorizing evidence on an entirely different level! Then again, maybe not. |

Maybe this is what is called "leaving the scene" in Peruvian law enforcement.

Re: A Woman Died and Her Companion Was Injured in an Assault
The deceased victim and her injured ex-partner were taking their 10-year-old son to the health center for a medical checkup, unaware that they were going to be attacked by two strangers. In an incident that has shocked the San Martín region, a young mother was shot dead on Saturday morning while she was traveling in a tricycle with her ex-partner and her young son to the Saposoa Health Center in the province of Huallaga. Doris Flores Calampa, 28, a student and mother of a 10-year-old boy, was attacked at close range by two men riding a motorcycle on the Eslabón – Piscoyacu stretch. The criminals, after firing multiple shots, fled the scene without stealing any belongings. At the crime scene, more than seven bullet casings were found, suggesting that the victims tried to resist the robbery. The victim received at least four bullet impacts that caused her instant death, while her ex-partner, Julio César Barrera, was injured and was taken to the Saposoa health center, where he remains in a reserved prognosis. The minor, son of the victims, fortunately was unharmed in the attack. According to family members, the former couple agreed to take their son to the Saposoa Health Center for a medical checkup that they had previously scheduled and they were not aware of any threats or problems that could motivate an attack of such magnitude. The National Police and the Public Prosecutor's Office have begun investigations to clarify this unfortunate incident and find the whereabouts of those responsible. The hypothesis of an assault has been ruled out, since the attackers did not take any of the victims' belongings. This new act of violence has caused great alarm among the population, which is demanding that the authorities redouble their efforts to guarantee public safety and put an end to the wave of crimes that is affecting different provinces in the San Martín region. |

Hint for the Peruvian National Police: The whereabouts of the promary suspect at the time of the video was the section of pavement directly beside the vehicle. You may have missed him since he was lying down.
