if you're dumb enough trying to cross the highway in the first place at least try to constantly look at the way traffic comes ffs. Not even gonna mention the equally retard in the car not seeing something crossing in front of him/her.

I was surprised to see all the other cars stop so quickly. I thought that she would be hit by numerous vehicles and tossed about on that highway.

That was my first thought; why isn't she watching oncoming traffic? OTOH, there were no cars obstructing the driver, how could he not see her. One less mouth to feed.

I see that all the time. Most common are the (ahem) proud low/no-incomes and the cripple beggars. The former jaywalk at a slow stroll expecting traffic to slow - as scampering is a social faux pas worse than death. The latter barrel down and across travel lanes in desperate madness, again oblivious to risk of death. In the winter, the have expanded opportunities to jaywalk in the dark.
