I don't know if anyone else has posted this, as I haven't read all 367 replies, but this guy was not homosexual. He was married with kids. The reason he gave for doing all this was that when he was a young boy, going through puberty, he witnessed a traffic accident of a young boy being hit whilst riding his bike, he saw the boy die and watched him, as the gasoline set on fire, and had strong sexual urges whilst watching it. It was those feeling he was trying to recreate, hence the burning fires and shoes at the murder scenes.
