A man suspected of shooting a man to death outside a 7-Eleven in 2021 was arrested Tuesday after authorities searched for him for almost three years, Portland police reported.

The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force took Leonard Edwards, 21, [of Portland] into custody in connection with the killing of Jonathon “Johnny” Polanco, 30.

Polanco, 30, was shot in the head in a 7-Eleven parking lot at Southeast 92nd Avenue and Holgate Boulevard [in SE Portland] on Aug. 20, 2021. Polanco was defending his girlfriend from two women assaulting her, Polanco’s family previously told The Oregonian/OregonLive.

Shortly after, a video of the assault began circulating on social media. The shaky footage shows the two women punching another woman and then a man walking toward the store and shooting Polanco.

That same year, one of the women involved in the attack turned herself in. Police also identified and interviewed another woman, a juvenile at the time, but determined she was “no longer of interest,” according to an earlier police statement.

Edwards, identified by then as a suspect in the killing, was still at large. A grand jury indicted him on murder and assault charges in November 2021, according to court records.

Almost three years later, Edwards was arrested on the outstanding warrants, police reported. As of Wednesday morning, he was being held in Multnomah County Detention Center.

Hey age is irrelevant unless tje attacker was an older adult or something.

I believe she mentioned being hit first as a way of letting it be known she didn't initiate the fight, but rather was defending herself.
