Anyone with college level anatomy and physiology under their scholastic belt knows that it is a fact, the brain, hence the person, functions for up to 10 or 15 seconds after being severed.

This is how long it takes for the blood pressure to drop enough to induce unconsciousness. The brain itself does not die until about 2-4 minutes after the cessation of blood flow from lack of oxygen. Anyone reading this who has ever had the medical condition called

Atrial Fib knows how long it takes before they feel light headed and begin to pass out. This happens because the heart is not pumping blood efficiently to the brain for up to 10 seconds in extreme cases. Again, it is the drop in blood pressure that induces the unconsciousness and brain death occurs some time after that.

Grim reality is yes, the person can very well see feel and comprehend things after their head is lopped off.

From the moment of the severing to the moment we see the eyes move is approximately 8 seconds. So if what you are saying is accurate, he most defintely was aware of the guy with the camera.

I can't get enough of this video! It's gotta be one of my all time favorites. It's just one of those things that you think about and wonder, but never really see any examples of it.

Hes totally unconscious on the first chop! the severed spinal cord and main artery would have have knocked him instantly, the second would be instant death, when the man died he had his eyes open!, when death occurred the Levator palpebrae superioris, muscle in eyelid relaxed and closed.

I'm as fascinated as anyone with the questions of how long people are conscious after a beheading. But it's funny that people are seeing the eye movement in this video and automatically assuming that it's proof of consciousness/awareness.

I believe that it's extremely likely that if he was actually aware/conscious in those moments we would have seen significant (or at least some) eye movement, rather than the hard stare we see here.

That being said, there have been a few videos in the last year or so that have shown what I consider to be brief moments of conscious eye movements. I think that if we could've gotten a close up shot within the first couple of seconds in this video we would have seen something.
