Re: Two Amateur Outdoor Adventurers Drowned
Looks like they had very little safety measures (no swim vests) and were surprised by the strong current. Poor souls :(

Re: Two Amateur Outdoor Adventurers Drowned
Agree. After looking at the footage a few times, I think she was tethered to the line in advance of her fall, and the man later got tangled up in her backpack straps and became tethered to the line as well. The both of them ended up as a whitewater strainer drowning. People who play in whitewater carry blades to cut themselves free (and wear PFDs). The woman looked weak and uncoordinated, and probably didn't have a chance from the onset unless the attendees released the line early on. The guy made it worse by grabbing her wrists so she should not drag herself along the line. The guy could have walked to safety if he did not attempt that ill advised rescue attempt. |

Oh, I just noticed that the line didn’t actually break, rather that was the other members untying the line right at the end!

Re: Two Amateur Outdoor Adventurers Drowned
Being tied to the safety line actually caused her to be held underwater for a lot longer than had she just got washed down to the shallower pools. That safety line is a joke. |

Re: Two Amateur Outdoor Adventurers Drowned
I'd also like to add due to the frothy bubbly aerated water they would have had little to no buoyancy or ability to stay afloat. They definitely needed life-jackets and a string system not held by people. |
