I used to work on accident investigations. There likely isn’t any sort of prison or jail time on the table here. Breaking normal traffic laws isn’t a proper crime so it would just be considered just a standard accident resulting in fatalities. It varies by state what is considered a crime but you usually have to be committing an actual crime for it to be punitive. Examples would be drunk driving, reckless endangerment (also depends on the state) and in some states texting while driving or using a phone in a non hands free fashion will meet that threshold. His legal status won’t factor in btw though if he is illegal this will definitely be a problem for him anyway.

A truck driver, identified as Harjinder Singh, has been arrested following a fatal crash on Florida’s Turnpike in St. Lucie County on August 12, 2025, that left three people dead.

FHP troopers obtained a criminal arrest warrant for Singh, charging him with three counts of vehicular homicide. During the investigation, with assistance from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), authorities determined Singh had entered the United States illegally in 2018 after crossing the Mexican border. He later obtained a commercial driver’s license in California.

Singh is currently being held on an ICE detainer. FHP said that once he's done serving his time for the charges in Florida, he will be deported.
