Thai Police Shoot at Man Who Ran At Them with Knife in Hand
Ratchaburi, Thailand A 60-year-old man, Suraphon, was shot dead after he attempted to attack officers with a knife. He sustained gunshot wounds to his right thigh, heel, and shin, as well as a head injury believed to be caused by falling onto the ground. Police had received a report of Suraphon in a frenzy brandishing a knife inside the alley. Police tried to contain the situation, only for Suraphon to run at them with a knife. One of the officers, whilst attempting to retreat, was slashed at, sustaining injuries. After the man collapsed, officers rushed him toward the hospital, but due to severe blood loss, they coordinated with an ambulance to transfer him en route. However, his condition worsened, and he ultimately died. The deceased's daughter reported that Suraphon had a psychiatric condition, and claimed he had simply been sitting outside the house clearing grass, using only a gardening knife. She did not understand who reported that her father was in a frenzy. She insisted she would pursue legal action to the fullest extent. Meanwhile, police examining the scene found six 9 mm bullet casings and a blood-stained knife, which were collected as evidence. |
