Re: Terrifying Last Moments of a Young Kiwi Killed by US Cops Who Shot Him FIVE Ti
The female Officer tried to deescalate the situation. She talked very politely to the kid and was very nice and calm in trying to get him to cooperate just like a counselor would have done but it did not work. I think the kid wanted to commit suicide by cop. Everything he did points to that. I am a former Police Officer and we were trained in Verbal Judo in which you try and calm the situation by being very nice and understanding. Not yelling commands. I recognize that she was using verbal judo on him.

Re: Terrifying Last Moments of a Young Kiwi Killed by US Cops Who Shot Him FIVE Ti
It's not a police officer's job to needlessly risk their lives for every damn mental patient. I'm sorry they have problems but if they're brandishing a weapon and threatening immediate harm then it's on them for getting shot. At the end of the day patrol duty is a job we go to make money, it's physically unpleasant most of the time. This is the biggest misconception - police don't exist to risk their lives for people they don't know. They are simply there to enforce city/county/state rules and regulations and get paid to do it, and are handed safety tools to keep themselves safe. If you're having a mental crisis don't fucking call police, just like you wouldn't call the fire department if accidentally ingested poison. |

What the fuck do you want? They're cops. And this guy is shit-balls crazy, and not listening to direct orders to drop the weapon after calling for help. Life just sucks sometimes and you can't always blame somebody for it.

He calls the cops and then claims he's afraid of said cops, refuses to get out of the car for an hour, picks up a knife when they get tired of his bullshit and break his window out, then gets shot when the officer tries to open his door and he turns to the officer with the knife. Not sure where there is any debate on this one. The cops did as they're trained to do, dude brought it on himself. |

Oh this poor, disadvantaged, misunderstood young man! The assumption that society must constantly bend around your “mental illness”, is getting old. Many of these people are caught up feeling sorry for themselves, then encouraged to continue because they have a “mental crisis”. We are increasingly embracing behavior that would of been considered simply rude a few years ago. Mental illness is NOT an excuse to behave in a threatening manner then expect a hug. This pussy should of scheduled additional time doing online therapy. They’ll feel sorry for him and encourage him to keep paying for such services. |

This is such a sad situation that could be solved in the future with better training for law enforcement. They did their best, but unfortunately "their best" wasn't compatible with the situation at all. It wasn't their fault. Their superiors need to review training.
