A teenager named Putri J. B. (18), participated with her family in mourning her grandmother on Sumatra, died while taking a midday bath in the river on Sunday, August 11, 2024. The victim and her family went to pay their respects because her grandmother had passed away.

Then on Wednesday, August 14 at 12.30 WIB, the victim, her brother and several other people went to the river to bathe and swim.

However, not long after, suddenly the victim's older brother came to her father who was at a resident's house, informing him that the victim had drowned in the river.

Police personnel immediately went to the location with a medical team from the health center and after that, the search was then carried out by diving at the bottom of the river.

As a result, about 1 hour later the victim was found at a depth of 3 meters in a dead condition.

The victim's body was taken to the Health Center for an external post-mortem. From the results of the examination, no signs of violence were found.

That sucks. A cousin of my mother drowned during a family get together around 1940 in Connecticut. She is 95 yrs old and still remembers it very sadly, she went into a room later that day and his dead body had been laid there, she was a young girl but she thought maybe he could have been saved.

There’s something visceral about seeing the body of somebody you know and love versus what we see here on a daily basis.

Seeing a person on here dying is almost nothing at this point. On paper, the idea of seeing somebody carefully placed in a casket and laying in peace would be easier to look at than somebody with their brains plastered on the pavement, but it isn’t.

When my brother OD’d a few years ago, I told my parents I didn’t want to see the body.

I don’t regret it at all, but I guess the mentality of it is I’d rather just know he’s dead than face that he’s dead…if that makes sense at all?

I guess it all comes down to the emotional attachment you have. After all humans are innately selfish to some extent. If I died tonight, absolutely nobody here would lose sleep about it. Hahaha

But that’s just the way we’re wired.

It’s probably inherently tribal to only ‘really’ care about those close to us, rather than waste energy on those that aren’t.
