Re: Tajikistan - Paragliding Russian Loses Control

Funny, seems like the safest thing in the world to me. I mean after all you just up a million miles in the air hanging off a bunch of nylon cords that themselves are not hooked to anything. What could possibly go wrong

That noise sounded like me failing to play the recorder in elementary school. "One a penny, two a penny! Hot cross buns!"

Re: Tajikistan - Paragliding Russian Loses Control

I am fascinated by this.

do you mean the trilling sound was an audible signal generated by his rate of climb indicator, or that the sound is the actual sound made by a variometer through the container inside it venting to the atmosphere?

I had never even heard the word variometer an hour ago, i was familiar with rate-of-climb indicators and vertical speed indicators, because of playing computer games and being a rocket/flight nerd, but as i now understand it a variometer's utility comes from the pressure inside it's flask lagging slightly behind the outside static air pressure and presumably that air flow through some kind of valve make a sound. or am i completely wrong?

edit, i have gone back and listened again more carefully. i am pretty sure it's an electronic doodad generating a tone.

Re: Tajikistan - Paragliding Russian Loses Control

"An athlete from St. Petersburg died in the mountains of Tajikistan. The video captured the last minutes of his life

P.C. loved to soar in the air. On September 8, he decided to go paragliding again. Despite good preparation, gusts of wind became fatal for the man - he could not cope with them and at some point began to fall. The camera dropped to the ground, and a man's last screams could be heard in the background."
Did he paradieded?

What a dangerous sport man. More dangerous than skydiving imo.
