It is actually a thing, as our neurology extends well past our brain. Our stomach for instance leads the GI tract with its own separate neurology, to the point our brain takes direction from the stomach more than the other way around. And our kidneys are their own "little brains", and our heart will just keep on thumping even when separated from the connection to our brain.

Our brain is were the conscious thought is, but we have "co-processors" spread out all over...
