Six Devotees Killed when Under-construction Roof of Temple Collapses
Six devotees were killed and 18 others suffered severe injuries after a pillar and an under-construction roof collapsed at the a Temple in India on Saturday afternoon around 3:30 PM. The temple, renowned as one of the most prominent pilgrimage sites in the district, typically attracts between 25,000 and 50,000 worshippers every Saturday, Artisans from outside the state had been crafting the reception hall using specialized stone procured from Rajasthan. As large crowds gathered inside the incomplete structure to receive prasad from the priests, a newly erected structural pillar suddenly shifted out of place. This triggered a domino effect, causing the heavy, under-construction concrete slab overhead to crash directly onto the unsuspecting crowd. Footage captured the harrowing moment the temporary scaffolding and bamboo framework buckled completely, burying dozens under massive piles of rubble. Emergency personnel and local villagers launched an immediate, rescue operation, pulling roughly 25 individuals out from beneath the concrete blocks. Six people were declared dead, while 18 survivors were rushed to the District Civil Hospital. According to official administrative reports, five of the deceased have been formally identified as M.R.A, 26. S.B.P, 20. S.B.G, 38. S.S.G and A.S. The other was a yet unidentified Male around 45 years old. Preliminary structural reports show that the centering and temporary scaffolding supporting the heavy concrete roof were completely inadequate. The heavy Rajasthan stone pillar that triggered the collapse was not properly anchored or stabilized to handle the weight of the freshly poured concrete. The temple administration allowed hundreds of devotees to gather directly underneath and around an active, high-risk construction zone. Knowing that Saturday always brings massive crowds for Lord Hanuman prayers, the trust failed to cordon off the unsafe area. An official technical investigation is also underway to test the quality of the building materials to see if structural integrity was compromised to cut costs. (I bet it was) |

Devotees and physics don't mix in India for some reason.

"The temple administration allowed hundreds of devotees to gather directly underneath and around an active, high-risk construction zone." Ignorance onsite reached a critical mass before the temple was ready to contain it, and reality saw an opportunity for an object lesson. |

Wow, no warning, the scaffolding just gave way and the roof crushed those people in half a second. Doesn't look like it was that much packed at the time of the accident |
