He almost certainly survived this. The injury seems to be localized to the facial area and looks like the brain wasn’t even penetrated. This is what we call a “Flincher” - it’s when a suicidal person puts the gun under their chin or upper palate but flinch as they pull the trigger causing the bullet to travel through the face instead of the brain.
