Re: Sonia Stamm Fatal Parachute Jump
When you're spinning like that, it's difficult to see how high above the ground you are. Also, when you're in a spiral like that, you're traveling about 60 mph. People have survived hitting the ground in an uncontrolled spiral like that but most do not live. The increased gravity due to the spinning makes it extremely difficult to bring your hands up to your cut away handle (usually on the chest) much less to be able to bring your arm high enough to read your altimeter. Skydiving is a dangerous sport, we all know it. We do it because we love the thrill. 99.9% of all skydiving accidents are human error. Looks like this woman had a line over malfunction. That's caused by an incorrect or sloppy pack job. Can also be caused by opening your parachute while facing a bad direction (back down, face up). Line overs are easiest to escape if recognized quickly because the G-forces haven't built up yet. Problem is, to recognize that there's a line over early, you need to have lots of experience. I don't know how much experience she had but she obviously didn't react fast enough to the malfunction. R.I.P.

You're a fucking idiot for thinking that it's easy to bring your hands to your chest to the cut away handle while you're in an uncontrolled spin like that.
