According to preliminary information, two couples gathered at an apartment building to celebrate Victory Day.

However, during the consumption of alcohol, one of the men - reports vary as to whether it was the guest or the host - decided to boast about an unusual item: a real combat grenade. While unconfirmed, it is thought he had gotten the grenade whilst participating in the invasion of Ukraine. The group was surprised but continued their celebration.

At some point, the women stepped out to go to a shop. Left alone, the men - who were both named Sergey - went out to the building’s staircase for a smoke, taking the dangerous souvenir with them.

It’s not entirely clear what they intended to do, but as soon as the wives of the two Sergeys entered the building and began climbing the stairs, an explosion occurred above them.

Both men died on the spot. As for their wives - one sustained a concussion and damage to her eardrum, while the other suffered a nervous breakdown and shock. Both declined medical attention.
