you know that pavement is hot from the sun. All the exhaust from the cars around. Dust everywhere. He has adrenaline keeping him going. He cant feel too much of the soft tissue injuries because all the nerves have been severed. he's shaking his head saying, "I cant go out like this". That would indeed be one shitty way to go!!
