Re: Police Kill Man for Illegally Camping
Thank you! I appreciate the answer. I have been bugged by what has seemed to be a blanketed perspective on your part - that to me, seemed overtly biased. I appreciate your answer. Even if you had answered differently, I asked for your honest opinion and would have appreciated it as well. Peace. |

Re: Police Kill Man for Illegally Camping
Comrade Curvature, your reasonableness is making the people uneasy and riotous. I would imagine that law enforcement would, statistically have as many weirdoes as the general population. In the case at hand...I don't see any issues of unprofessionalism. See when I was working, one of the things I did was investigate officer involved shootings and use of force incidents. I've seen it all over 30 years. I still testify as an expert in court on occasion (it pays a ton, but it's infrequent) on just the type of incident we see on this case. Mostly I work for the prosecution or the defense if the defendant is an accused police officer. I don't do very much defense work at all. The incident you saw on that video is not a simple and cut and dry as many think...there's a massive amount of investigation and research that goes into something like that...it's very very thorough, because of both the potential criminal issues and civil liabilities. Something like this shooting could be over $20 million in a wrongful death law suit. So when everyone on here gets their panties in a bunch over all sorts of understandable, but stupidly simplistic accusations and conspiracies, it saddens me, so, like an idiot, I try to help them understand. As you can see it is met with mixed results. The majority of people haven't a clue what they're seeing, and in most cases if they do, they're wrong, because everything they've been taught about the police comes from tv and movies...horrible sources I might add. In today's world, these use of force investigations don't miss much. When the conclusions are published and the findings are in, generally few question the results. In other words, there are no conspiracies about this kind of thing and the guilty are clearly identified. The cards fall where they fall...you just can't influence the investigation, it is what it is. |

Re: Police Kill Man for Illegally Camping
30564U - the thing we have in common here, is that over the internet people will say things that we will read, that they would never say to our face, in person. If you look at my posts you will find I do not use the word Pig or other words for the police, I dont have an inordinate dislike of the police at all. Nothing I said to you, I would not have said to you in person, but perhaps not, if I actually saw your eyes and realized you were a cool guy. Another flaw of this vehicle of communication. I am black, and I learned that this venue is a way for people to say things they would never have the balls to say outloud. Its like Stormfront Lite |

Re: Police Kill Man for Illegally Camping
Storefront lite...nice. You are correct, you never called the police bad names, you're too old for that...that's from the youngsters that don't remember the 60's. I understand you being suspect of the police, a lot of Black folks have a traditional fear and hatred of law enforcement, and in many places, for good reason. Look at each one of these incidents from a coldly clinical perspective. If you knew what a nightmare of interrogation, paperwork, investigation, rumors, law suits, and depression that a cop goes through, even for a good righteous shooting, you'd never think we wanted or desired to get in one again. It's hell anyway you cut it...even a shooting like this and it's on tape doesn't make it any easier. All I ask from anyone on this site, is to have a just a tiny bit of faith in the system used to investigate these incidents. If the COP's screwed up, they're gonna get hammered. There are no coverups anymore and there haven't been in 40 years or more. It just isn't possible now, there's just too many cross checks. I wish folks would relax and just be reasonable citizens and when confronted with an officer, just be friendly...you'd be suppressed how well it works. Hell you might even get out of anything just by being nice and respectful.

Re: Police Kill Man for Illegally Camping
Yup, pretty much. I try not to deal with race too much. I find the whole racial issue to be rather funny and filled with comedic material on all sides. Some old time common racist beliefs are so stupid, but funny in the right context. Cops are pretty thick skinned and masters of dry ironic humor. I miss that now that I'm retired. Stupid people are funny no matter their race. It's getting so people can't laugh at themselves anymore and when they do some fool calls it racial or not pc. It's sad, crude and distasteful humor is a staple in public service and a way to deal with what we see.

Re: Police Kill Man for Illegally Camping
I wish more people would take a more carefree approach like this. If they did, I am convinced just from my own experiences, that people (all of us) would have much more honest communication with each other instead of needlessly walking on egg shells and fearing reprisal for good intentions being misinterpreted.
