Yes, I do. In fact I've witnessed several unprofessional instances. Nothing life and death related or criminal, but unprofessional none the less. The police are chosen from the general population, and in spite of the fairly difficult and long selection process, idiots do sneak through. I would imagine that human nature being what it is we have a number of retards and nuts in the profession that end up having fairly long careers. But, while saying that, I feel strongly that most, if not all, are weeded out during the academy or within the first year on patrol. Don't forget probation usually lasts a year. The standards of patrol training are very rigorous throughout most of the US and Canada. In fact, my graduate thesis was on the subject of what a fuck up the current psychological screening process is in choosing both law enforcement and fire fighter candidates. Anyone fairly educated would also know how unreliable polygraph examinations are as well. In fact, there's a lot of safeguards set up to weed out knuckleheads in the selection process that are either half assed or don't work at all. We as tax payers are getting royally ripped off with the process as it stands now. |
