Re: The Philippines: Soldier Kills Father & Son During Birthday Celebration
This is weird start to finish. Can anyone who speaks Tagalog translate what was said leading up to the shoot? The dude rushing the soldier with a machete deserved to get ventilated, but the unarmed old man? No way...

Re: The Philippines: Soldier Kills Father & Son During Birthday Celebration
For the first guy sure but not the second. Around 0:18 We can see his hands and that they're empty so it's very likely that the soldier did too. His rifle was markedly below his line of sight so he could have a very clear view of the guy. He didn't mag dump but had a very bad backstop (our POV). Per the article, some bystanders were hit in the legs so that checks (more on that later). I'm no cop but posit that he had enough time to see the second guy wasn't armed so in most of the US lethal force wouldn't be an appropriate response. Yes, we all know bad shoots aren't' prosecuted all that often, true. That being said, again from our POV, at 0:17 the second guy's left hand seems to be obscured so probably more so from the soldier's POV and that change happened very quickly. His bursts, versus panic firing, suggest he has some stress inoculation, and I think he was experienced enough to not shoot the second guy. I mean he even grabs the weapon right after downing the second guy and averts his muzzle right afterwards. I'm honestly surprised he didn't' use the sling. He basically shoots the second guy from a low ready and doesn't even use his sights (doesn't look like he used them at all but at that distance point shooting really works for long guns). This also corroborates the aforementioned leg shots as he was shooting comparatively low. Can't tell for sure but he looks to the left (0:12), possibly towards the second guy, starts to ready his rifle, then back to the one with the weapon before making space. This suggests he had even more time to ID the two and see that the second guy wasn't armed. Just my two cents. |

I was just about to respond with a correction, but decided to look this up since I know you don’t troll. Wow! There is a slang, comedic use of the word “Philippinian”. Hm, I never knew that.

For the video though, the soldier just may get off. This isn’t as clear cut as the other video where the guy shot the grandson and grandmother in the Philippines. Where is that video anyway?
