I think the queer comment could maybe be an insight into some of the conflict that was going on. His obituary didn't mention any kids, he was also a decorated Navy vet. So the neighbours could have been judgementally bullying him for that.

It was mentioned three times. One of those stated that it was not a gun rather a smartphone which she said she was using to record the shooter.
