Open Trailer Truck Reverses Over Mom and Daughter on Motorcycle
Thailand, Mrs. K.P, 46 years old and Miss S.W.P, 19 years old, mother and daughter were returning from a visit to their husband/dad who was in Phranakhon Hospital. Mr. S.P, 51, the husband and father of the deceased revealed that he had an infection on his right hand, got treatment at the hospital and went to bed for the first night after hand surgery and sterile injections on Aug 28. On Aug. 29, in the morning, his wife and daughter, riding on a motorbike, came to visit him to see how he was doing before exiting at noon. When they were riding behind an open trailer truck they were forced to hit the brakes because the truck stopped. The truck reversed and drove over them. They both died. The 47 years old trucker told police he missed the road on his left he was supposed to take so he hit the brakes, looked into his mirrors, saw no cars or other traffic and reversed. He felt the bump when doing so and stopped the truck and saw what had happened. The daughter is the youngest daughter. Just recently passed the first year of university entrance examination, Faculty of Management. |

Oh fuck! What on earth were they thinking getting so bloody close?! I can't even imagine the terror + pain they felt in their last moments, just awful.

Great extra detail. That's what I was thinking, why the fuck did they get so close to him? Arrogent and foolish. Do you assume the smartest, most aware people in the world are driving these huge utility vehicles? It may be a noble profession but not one for the especially educated.

Tailgating and stupid, but it is the trucker's responsibility to not run people over, and he failed at that. There should have been a momback along for the job.

Trucker had no business reversing like that.  And then stops and decides to drive over the “bumps” again just to be sure they are dead.Is it like China where it’s cheaper to deal with dead victims in vehicle accidents than injured victims? |

I NEVER get that close behind ANY heavy vehicle on my bike. And even when I stop, I always leave a way out if something happens. Trucks roll backwards ALL THE TIME at stoplights. The braking should have been a good enough warning for them that something was wrong. But you have to be aware of your surroundings, and awake to the danger. They were neither. |

Normally I would think that they were way too close which would seat them deep into the drivers blind spot... Yet we are looking at an empty flat bed being pulled by a day cab with a huge clear window to look directly back. Semi drivers are much more used to using their side mirrors but in this case, where he missed his turn and made an impromptu stop/ reverse in the middle of the road, he should have been a bit more attentive to his surroundings. You could also argue that they were not riding closely until he made the abrupt stop. An abrupt stop would not have given those following the proper amount of time to react. I would put 80% of the blame on the TRUCK driver given these circumstances. A little bit of awareness from both parties would have gone a long way (though this can be said for many of the roadway accidents we see on here). |
