Re: NEW YORK: 86yo Man Decapitated by City Truck
Just FYI: Pedestrian crossings that have a WALK/DON’T WALK sign are traffic lights, same as red/yellow/green lights for vehicles. But, if it says ‘DON’T WALK’, the pedestrian is at fault if there’s an accident, same as driving through a red light. Just because there’s a crosswalk doesn’t mean a pedestrian has the right of way! You can’t just cross in front of moving traffic!!! I have a high school friend who was in a similar situation, as the driver… Sun was in his eyes and the gentleman was walking in the lane of traffic… pure accident. Hopefully the driver in this video will get the help he needs to process what happened. It wasn’t his fault. Also, if there ARE these pedestrian crossing signsls, a pedestrian would NOT have to wait for a break in traffic… just the light… You DO understand that this is EXACTLY what those signals are for, right? If there’s only a crosswalk, traffic is supposed to stop, as and when it’s safe, for pedestrians who are standing there waiting to cross. Though, most crosswalks have a button to activate the WALK light. I believe that laws regarding these things can be localized, so paying attention to signage is imperative, but this is generally how it works here. |
