Re: Naked Man with History of Mental Illness Shot by Cop

These are some pretty major braindead and uneducated takes. Particularly the "just wound him" take. Either way, it's considered use of deadly force, whether you shoot them in the face or in the pinky. Shooting to wound simply doesn't exist, and you could figure that out pretty quickly with the simplest amount of research. The point is a neutralize the threat, and "wounding" is not viable nor realistic. Officer could've very well not had a taser to use. That's an issue with the department to provide that gear. But if that's the officer's only option, he has no choice.
I'll look at any research you care to post that proves shooting to wound 'does not exist'. It does exist, we have the power to shoot to wound. I can shoot my dog to kill or wound if I want - and if he was foaming at the mouth and coming at me, I might. But see, that's a dog - not a human being. Do you mean the dept and the officer don't want to shoot to wound due to liability? He could have tased him or used his training to neutralize him, also possibilities. But the excuse is he didn't have a taser and too many donuts in his little man belly? Perp was a naked unarmed man and was shot for what he 'might' have been able to do. All actions by the cop were considerably unprofessional including the pussy-voiced passive aggressive baiting while pointed a loaded gun. He wanted to shoot and instead of having backup, using training, using the non-lethal tools that do 'exist,' he shot him dead.

Re: Naked Man with History of Mental Illness Shot by Cop

To me this is one of those cases where it is a tragedy. The officer was trying to be friendly with the man, he probably assumed he could de-escalate the situation like he had earlier. Once the man started to charge you can hear the fear in the cops voice. Sure he could have already had his taser out but the threat to kill had been established. I’ve seen videos on here of people with mental disabilities keep walking after taking a full clip to the chest. If I was that cop I probably would have done the same thing knowing how ineffective tasers can be. Maybe just having more cops in this situation they could have physically subdued him

M'kay, so if I'm talking nicely to you while at the same time I keep my gun pointed at you would you say I'm acting friendly?

Well think: He isn't mentally-ill anymore. Win-win.

Re: Naked Man with History of Mental Illness Shot by Cop

Another fucking pussy copy. Training his weapon and talking shit. He was being absolutely passive aggressive and baiting him. Could have tazed, could have made sure a counselor was on call, could have just taken him down. He wanted to shoot that gun. And btw, why not just wound him, better than taking his life and still just as justified on camera.
You are right and I barely ever agree with ppl who go against cops shooting and killing justifiable/murder claims. This cop was undertrained and brought this upon himself and in no way was threatened by the individual who he shot and killed he should have tazed took him to the ground attempted handcuffs before he took life

Re: Naked Man with History of Mental Illness Shot by Cop

21th century policing should have included a counselor to defuse this police shooting
Defuse?? Seriously. You can’t defuse circs like this. Charging at the Officer in relation to his previous encounter that day leaves no chances to be taken. I was a cop for 32 years. And a man with a knife 20’ away can be more dangerous than a man with a gun. And this suspect was an immediate threat to the Officer.

Re: Naked Man with History of Mental Illness Shot by Cop

Could have tazed or tussled with him. Not the most justified shooting but nothing will come of it.
