Green Boots was located at an altitude of around 8500m (350 vertical m from the summit), well within the death zone. At this altitude, everything is an unbelievable chore, and make no mistake, if you stay above 8000m you will die.

Think about that for a second.

Everyone who climbed by him, from 1996-2014 (when a group of climbers from China made a planned climb to move his body to a less visible location), knows that if they stay up there, they too will die.

Stopping to help another climber is already a risky venture, and one that has resulted in the death of the rescuer on several occasions.

Stopping to move a body really isn't an option for most.

Almost all of the 8000m+ mountains have bodies on them, and Everest has hundreds.

As for how long they can stay up there, Mallory died up there in 1924, and his body wasn't discovered until 1999...and he's still up there today.

There are around 200 dead bodies on Mount Everest alone and there is almost no way to get them down, helicopters cant hover safely above 3000 meters and carrying them down would risk the life of others.
