Re: Mexican Monster Mash...

Not that it is important but monster trucks in the U.S. have kill switches that are controlled by safety crews on the side, in case something goes wrong to try and prevent stuff like this from happening again.

Re: Mexican Monster Mash...

Mexico monster truck driver detained amid suspicions he was drunk during horrific crash that killed 8 spectators and injured 79

*Twelve spectators remained in intensive care Sunday with four in critical condition after the truck shot into the audience at a Chihuahua, Mexico air show Saturday
*Witnesses say they saw the driver hit his head on the inside of his truck just after a car-jumping stunt and before deadly crash
*Authorities are also investigating whether a mechanical error might have happened, causing the gas pedal to stick
This is why monster trucks and cheap budget shows should NEVER mix. Safety must always come first with these massive machines! Compromise the safety of the driver, the audience and the crew - and this is what happens. With todays monster truck safety arrangements it shouldn't have been possible for him to hit his head and lose his helmet like that. There should've been an off-switch controlled by the crew. And no real monster truck driver would ever do a jump towards the audience?! Jumps must always be AWAY from the crowd! And if it turns out the driver really had been drinking too, it's just.. UGH!!

Re: Mexican Monster Mash...

Oh and btw, the Monster Truck Racing Association is officially condemning this shitty event.

October 6, 2013

MTRA Official Statement: Chihuahua Mexico Tragedy

In response to the unprecedented tragedy which took place in Chihuahua, Mexico on Saturday October 5, 2013, we the Board of Directors of the Monster Truck Racing Association feel compelled to publicly condemn the glaring disregard for spectator safety exhibited by the event organizers of the ‘Extremo Aeroshow 2013′ in addition to the clear lack of precautionary safety equipment and safe method of operation exhibited by the vehicle and driver involved.

The precarious scenario set up by these individuals is counter to, and ignorant of, the numerous safety measures and protocol established by the MTRA over the past three decades. It is our sincere hope that this tremendous loss serves as a solemn reminder to everyone with any relationship to the monster truck industry of the importance of adhering to these critical standards. We urge all event promoters as well as anyone planning to conduct a monster truck related event to contact the MTRA for assistance in insuring that all of these safety measures are observed.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to the families of those lost, and we pray for a full and speedy recovery for all of those injured in this incident.

For inquires please contact the MTRA at: contact@mtra.us

Re: Mexican Monster Mash...

A kill switch on the side of the vehicle doesn't help much when it's at full throttle.
