Re: MAN SUCKED INTO PIPE

It's not really a vacuum. It's because of the torrent of water flowing through the pipe. It looks like he was thrown off balance when the hammer broke through and hit the water. That caused his feet to slip off the pipe and into the current. I wonder where they pulled him out from? It looked like he was well on his way downstream.
Didn't you see the speed at which he was pulled in? And the fact that he's bigger than the pipe. If it was just flowing water his whole friggin body wouldn't have been sucked up in a fraction of a second.

Re: MAN SUCKED INTO PIPE

With the updated info about it being a water pipe, here's my synopsis:

The man was hammering on a large section of the pipe that was previously cut in order to break it free for maintenance. When the large section broke free, it broke free and was sucked into the pipe, thus allowing the final attempted strike against the pipe to basically carry through.

The pipe appears to be a high flow or some kind of high pressure main with a large throughput, thus, when his swing overextended, the hammer got caught, and with human reaction times, he was unable to let go and regain his balance before the water pulled his hand, arm, and body straight through.

A great example of the physics behind why it sucked him in instead of batting his hand away is shown when you float a ball on one of those toys that use fast moving air to keep the ball centered. I can't explain the physics personally, but that's an example of fluid dynamics at work.

Some things that appear to be misconstrued in several comments:

Any vacuum formed by the air nearby would likely not have been enough to suck him in, and it it were a true vacuum in the pipe, the act of cutting through the walls in such a large area would have released quite a portion of the vacuum. This pipe had a massive quantity of fast moving water, which is the culprit in this case.

If I got anything wrong, I'll try to update it if people tell me.
I think the vacuum theory still holds actually. Yes that small section where the pipe was cut open would relieve the vacuum however just past the opening, I think the rushing water would fill the space and in turn make a vacuum.

Watching the slow motion you can see he lets go of the hammer and both hands go above the hole. His feet and legs then slip in, and because they are submerged they are subjected to the pressure, and he gets sucked in.

I think.

Re: MAN SUCKED INTO PIPE

Checked in slow mo, legs go first then definitely hit back of his head during entry but helmet might soften that blow, pipe is large enough so he doesnt squish to death, i give him 75% chance of survival.

Re: MAN SUCKED INTO PIPE

He got sucked into Willy Wonka's fudge pipe.
Is that a euphemism?

He so easily could have avoided going in, he would have just had to accept some pain. Got to be quick on your feet.
