Re: MAN SUCKED INTO PIPE
With the updated info about it being a water pipe, here's my synopsis: The man was hammering on a large section of the pipe that was previously cut in order to break it free for maintenance. When the large section broke free, it broke free and was sucked into the pipe, thus allowing the final attempted strike against the pipe to basically carry through. The pipe appears to be a high flow or some kind of high pressure main with a large throughput, thus, when his swing overextended, the hammer got caught, and with human reaction times, he was unable to let go and regain his balance before the water pulled his hand, arm, and body straight through. A great example of the physics behind why it sucked him in instead of batting his hand away is shown when you float a ball on one of those toys that use fast moving air to keep the ball centered. I can't explain the physics personally, but that's an example of fluid dynamics at work. Some things that appear to be misconstrued in several comments: Any vacuum formed by the air nearby would likely not have been enough to suck him in, and it it were a true vacuum in the pipe, the act of cutting through the walls in such a large area would have released quite a portion of the vacuum. This pipe had a massive quantity of fast moving water, which is the culprit in this case. If I got anything wrong, I'll try to update it if people tell me. |

Re: MAN SUCKED INTO PIPE
Some just said he was found without life with no links or sources. Would he of gone all the way to the end of the pipe? Or just come to a stop eventually a mile down the road? More likely meet a grate of some kind and just be stuck. Hopefully died and they didn't just turn the water back on while he was stuck against some grate somewhere. |
