Does it make a difference? It's up to every individual to protect themselves. If I don't want to get hit by a car, then I don't have to. I can simply prevent it myself, without relying on a driver to follow the rules of the road. Why would I do that? Drivers are: Drunk, high, blinded, texting, stupid, old women, old men, young teenagers, and all other sorts of hazardous drivers. Why would I trust them to stop at a crosswalk??? Why wouldn't I just make sure the road is clear before crossing since I will be the one who dies if one of us isn't paying attention. The driver will be fine.
