Now I grant you, Ed could have gotten that unhinged and bipolar because they allegedly pointed guns earlier—but to be honest here, would you rather be armed around somebody who behaves like that, or not?

If Ed was that unstable and had no fear of people who are armed, right in front of his face, then who knows, he could've been liable to explode and go nuts, and commit great bodily harm or worse, over anything—at any moment.

The issue here is not guns (aside from my previous comments)—it is untreated and unaddressed mental illness, which clearly was the case with Ed.

Personally I would have retreated, keeping the weapons not pointed (like they did), but at-the-ready—and simply waited for the police to resolve the dispute.

Or even better, I would not have come out at all, and simply called the police instead.

By the way, what makes you think that Ed would have changed his demeanor when the police came, and wouldn't have acted the same or worse, even towards the cops?

Then the cops would have shot him anyway, if they couldn't restrain or arrest him, and say he proceeded to attack them.

This is all conjecture, and I'm not a mind reader or clairvoyant either... but I ask you this, in conclusion:

I'm tired of people disparaging the Second Amendment; it is there for good reason—precisely when things get physical. It is also meant as a deterrent.
