Re: Man Falls to His Death Fleeing Fire

he did just exactly what I would do in that situation
jumping on the small 'balcony' under
maybe the fire was so big he could not reach for the door

Re: Man Falls to His Death Fleeing Fire

That dude was actually on fire when he came out the window. He literally... went down in flames!

I would probably get into the shower/bathtub and turn the water on and stay there. Wet a towel with water and put that over my head and use it to try to filter and cool the air to breathe.

Re: Man Falls to His Death Fleeing Fire

looks like the fire is localized to that one apartment. people are so terrified of fire they'd rather cling to the outside of a skyscraper than make a quick 10-15 foot dash to the door and maybe singe some hair? i don't get it.
It goes without saying you don't get it.

The temperature is so high you will not be able to stand a yard away without your clothing spontaneously bursting in fire, you will not singe in that "10-15 foot dash", you'll get 3rd degree burns two or three steps into the fire and would be impossible for you to put it out if you ever got to the opposite side.

Re: Man Falls to His Death Fleeing Fire

I’d rather jump and bellyflop on the ground below than burn any day.
Sure, that decision is almost automatic for most people, but if you can't decide the fire's heat will push you away over the ledge anyway.

Re: Man Falls to His Death Fleeing Fire

It looks to me like the other guy had a better escape root available to him.
He sure had, let's make a toast with a cold can of route beer, cheers!

Re: Man Falls to His Death Fleeing Fire

Pretty sure the sheets would be burned in 30 seconds flat. He had no chance. If only the lower balcony was a foot and a half wider.
For God's sake, TAKE YOUR SHEETS AND MAKE A ROPE AND DROP ONE FLOOR, AND KICK IN A WINDOW! Tie them around you so you can't fall. Once the window is broken, whoever is there can pull you in and then you can cut the sheets.
Do SOMETHING! ANYTHING!

Re: Man Falls to His Death Fleeing Fire

This and 9/11 is why, as beautiful as they are, I’d never live in a high rise. I wonder if the other guy survived? That was the only time I saw someone successfully scale a building on here. The guy that fell, if you notice, his entire back had no skin. It was burned from the fire. It’s too bad that balcony wasn’t a little wider.
