I remember back in the 90s, a bunch of cases where kids were having their bowels and other organs sucked out of their bums when they would lean against the suction thing in pools.
Anyone remember these cases?

No, and I used to do that sometimes, and it felt good. The suction was far too mild to do any harm. Are you sure you aren't repeating an urban legend?

Apparently, it's not an urban legend. Searching news articles, there's multiple cases (even in the past few years) of children having to lose parts of their bowel due to accidental disembowling/prolapse due to suction drains in swimming pools. I knew of other injuries, such as hair being caught, and drowning from suction entrapment when we were younger, but this? crickey.

Cases of transanal evisceration of children whilst sitting over uncovered swimming pool drains have been reported; notable cases include Valerie Lakey (1993) and Abigail Taylor (2007). In Taylor's case, the suction dislodged and damaged her liver and pancreas; several meters of her small intestine were forcefully pulled through her anus. In both these cases, the victims were left with short bowel syndrome and required feeding by total parenteral nutrition. After multiple operations, Taylor later died from transplant-related cancer.

damn! poor kiddos... especially after going thru all that then to get cancer from the treatment? heartbreaking.... thanks for the follow-up, lostindisorder...when minka said something about it, it sounded familiar...

It looks like it was hot in the factory and they were using the air from the hose like a fan to cool off. Then the boss dude puts the hose to the outside of the seat of the guy’s pants as a joke. Doesn’t look like it would have caused such a devastating injury! Must have been in just the right position.

My mom told me about pool drains sucking your intestines out of your butt from the time I was little. I’ve always been afraid of them!
