Re: At Least 49 Killed, 450 Injured in Shipping Container Depot Fire Explosion
Remind me me of the Tianjin explosion where containers filled with aliminum nitrate caught fire, this compound react exothermically with water. Firefightter who had no knowledge of the presence of these chemical just went in doing their job trying to put out the fire with water... they only precipitated their death trough a spectacular explosion. Seem to be the same kind of situation here as the fire seem to gain in intensity as the container get hosed.

Thats what I was thinking after watching it a few times. Water kept making it worse, and possibly didn't have the correct extinguisher measures to combat such a chemical fire like that. I keep spotting the blue containers everywhere - wonder what could have been in there. They look like the same containers used to store metal powders

Im sure the Indian officials had all the safety precautions in place to prevent these type of scenarios from occurring. Im sure the shipping containers followed strict guidelines on cargo and their handling procedures... |

Yeah, like letting all those curious onlookers stand around so close. Those guys trying to extinguish it with water or whatever they were using had no idea what they were dealing with whatsoever.
