South Africa - Boxer Dies
"The 24-year-old Buthelezi faced compatriot Siphesihle Mntungwa for the WBF All Africa lightweight title on Sunday, but the 10-round contest was stopped by the referee after Buthelezi appeared to shadow box an invisible opponent. Mntungwa was declared the winner and Buthelezi subsequently collapsed and was rushed to hospital. He was placed in an induced coma after it was discovered he had bleeding on the brain. Boxing South Africa (BSA) confirmed Buthelezi had died on Tuesday evening in a statement jointly issued with the boxer's family."

Re: South Africa - Boxer Dies
Sweet Jesus, I assumed the bloke who got knocked into the ropes was going down. That’s the most bizarre thing I’ve seen in boxing since Oliver McCall had his total and utter break down in the ring in his rematch against Lewis in 1997.

Can you imagine that? He must have been hanging on to life by mere neurons. Poor guy, at least he went out swinging |

Well done to the other guy who showed restraint even before the ref stood in.

Agreed. I watched that fight live, and it was the saddest, most bizarre thing I've ever witnessed in any sport.

Re: South Africa - Boxer Dies
Yep I watched it at the time as well and was thinking what the hell is up with McCall as he came into the ring. He was clearly in another world the way he came bounding in. Running around like a twit. That said, his defence was still pretty good even when he was having his break down. Lewis couldn’t lend much if any. Even when Olly wasn’t looking at him. |

I absolutely fucking hate boxing, it's such a disgusting 'sport'. Any other situation, you'd get done for beating the living shit out of someone, but call it 'sport' + it's ok.
