Re: ☠Hostage Taker Hector Duarte's Brains Blown Out By Sharpshooter In Venezuela
Maybe you mean .308 caliber, which is 7.62 NATO? That wouldn't come in a 75 grain bullet either. 5.56 NATO, or the civilian equivalent of .223 doesn't come that light. Maybe it's a special caliber and round for sharpshooters in S.A. ? I'd like more info on the rifle, as well as the round that it fires. Thanks! |

Re: ☠Hostage Taker Hector Duarte's Brains Blown Out By Sharpshooter In Venezuela
You are probably correct, .308 / 7.62 NATO. Bullet could be 175 grain Sierra Match King or equivalent, the "75 grains" is probably a typo. There aren't any 75 grain bullets for .308 I can think of. 168 grain Sierra or 175 grain Sierra are among the most accurate bullets and are frequently used by competition shooters and snipers. I think the US Army uses 175 grain Sierras as the standard sniper bullet IIRC. The USMC won't designate a rifle as a 'sniper rifle' unless it can place 5 bullets in a 1 inch group at 100 yards, called 'sub MOA' (minute of angle, 1 minute of angle at 100 yards is about 1 inch). In this hostage situation, they said the sniper is about 50meters away, so a good rifle should be accurate to under 1 inch. Important at that range is the movement of the bad guy and his finger on a maybe cocked trigger. I wouldn't want the responsibility of that sniper job. |

I watched in the news long ago, but it was censored. Thank you very much.

Re: ☠Hostage Taker Hector Duarte's Brains Blown Out By Sharpshooter In Venezuela
When you see the brief shot of the hostage taker in the back of the meat wagon, you can clearly see that the whole side of his face, from the left eye down, is hanging loose and obviously torn away from his skull. It's possible he would have felt that for a fraction of a second before he collapsed to the ground, unless the bullet took out part of his brain, in which case death would have been instant. |
