Re: Honduras Morgue, Dead People Left to Rot

Ironically none is being left to rot here. This is a cadaver preservation facility. The cadavers are immersed in formalin for months. Then used in gross anatomy classes at medical schools. Notice the skillfully dissected cadaver in the first few minuets? the carefully separated muscle groups. The partitioned skull? Nice work!
But all of the specimens look to be in advanced states of decomp. And they are not exactly immersed in the formalin, only bits of them.

Surely they could find some fresh ones to preserve for training?

Or maybe it was specifically for looking at decomp?

Actually they are left to rot. They're all dead people nobody ever claimed.
Stuck in boxes filled or half filled with formalin.
All in advanced stages of decay. Probably cause nobody really cared about proper preservation of a dead body.
They're mostly used for students to learn on them. But they're not bodies donated to science, they're literally abandoned, or unknown people.
By the time students can have them, they're already rotten.

Can you imagine what it smelled like in there? I don't think there is any amount of Fabreeze that could lighten that room up.

Cool

That's how students learn, even though it looks dodgy to the untrained eye.

We had a case of 'unclaimed body' at the morgue I worked in. Junkie family not interested and eventually, the hospital had to arrange with the local undertaker had to cremate her. It was sick
