He probably couldn't feel any pain there. Seeing how "easy" he took it, I really don't think he could feel it.

He was probably is shock. A few years ago I fell broke my ankle and my bf wouldn't let me see (very over protective) and insisted to call an ambulance. I was thinking it wasn't bad because it didn't hurt and the emt's kept asking my pain level on a 1-10 scale and I just said a two (I really thought it was just sprained).
They gave me morphine any way. I was in shock and my ankle bone was broke in two. At the x-rays when they had to move it you could see the bones poking under my skin- a few rods and screws later I got a cool scar out of it.
