Nope, Ammonium Nitrate actually decomposes non explosively at high temperatures (above 200 degrees Celsius), those poor people just wished that had happened instead of being detonated by a high velocity shockwave due to a primary explosive stored along with such a big quantity of NH4NO3.

Psilocybin's molecule look almost exactly like serotonin IIRC. LSD looks similar to serotonin, but has a few rings added, and LSD is psychoactive in smaller doses than psilocybin/psilocin. Mescaline looks a lot like epinephrine IIRC (been a long time since I looked at the molecules, my memory is a bit purple hazy on this).

Interestingly, of all the hundreds of thousands or millions of organic molecules synthesized or found in nature, only a relatively few like psilocybin, LSD and mescaline are psychoactive in such small doses.
