I agree even if the motorist had seen him He would not have expected the motorcycle to come upon him so quickly. People make assumptions about the amount of time they have to make a turn based on their experience of a normal speed from the oncoming vehicle  People make assumptions about the amount of time they have to make a turn based on their experience of a normal speed from the oncoming vehicle. there is a great deal of danger in going that fast. The car was not going fast at all. It slowed down in order to make a turn to me this was clearly the motorcyclists fault. This that is the lesson this mother should be putting out there.

Yea we watched, the average driver makes that turn because seeing the motorcycle closing the distance at that speed is far from expected

I agree. So tired of seeing "watch for motorcycles" stickers on other vehicles. How about the jag-offs on bikes watch where they go and ride safely. Everyday to work there's at least one idiot biker weaving through traffic and pushing their luck. I do watch out for bikes, but only because the majority of them are the cause of accidents involving them.

I like motorcycles, especially cause they look pretty nice and don't take up much space so I'd probably consider buying one at some point in my life. But I don't get why so many people driving them have the need to speed. Are they actually thinking people get impressed if they speed like reckless morons? Or do they think their balls get bigger if they do so? It's such a mystery to me |

Now, it's been said in the past, by friends and by those who don't know me, that I can be a bit of a cunt. But I'm going to try to be all serious for this post. I wish people would stop giving it all the bike versus car argument. Here's the thing. You're driving (or riding) in traffic. You want to turn into oncoming traffic. If the road is particularly busy, you carry out a risk assessment (hell, you want to get home from work without delay!) - "There is traffic coming, how fast is it going, can I make it?" - which probably takes, at most, a couple of seconds. An experienced driver (or rider) will probably correctly assess the risk, and either turn or wait. Someone less experienced may well think that they can make it when they can't. They will make a mistake. That doesn't turn them into a murderer. They made a mistake - costly one, but their actions weren't malicious. In this instance, I believe, from memory, that the driver was inexperienced. So they made a mistake in assessing the risk. The motorcyclist, however, didn't make a mistake. He was deliberately speeding, so his recklessness contributed to the accident. Indeed, if the car had turned slightly sooner and there was a passenger in the front, then there may well have been two deaths. What we should also consider is that we're only viewing it from the rider's perspective. He's barrelling down the road at twice the speed limit, and seemingly at the last minute, the car turns. It would've been interesting to view it from the perspective of a dash cam in the car. Then the discussion may well have focused on the "Christ, the biker appeared out of nowhere" versus "The driver clearly made an serious error in judgement" argument. As for the car driver versus biker argument, I've seen some giant bell-ends driving cars and some giant bell-ends riding bikes. Drivers seem to think that a thin veneer of steel will protect them and bikers seem to think that they become surrounded by some kind of mystical force field the faster they go. Don't get me wrong - I love the thrill of driving fast, accelerating quickly (I've got a sporty car), but after 30 years of driving, I like to think that I now know when it is less risky to put my foot down. lmfao, if I was the dude who killed him I'd be proud. Driving like a total twat. Well deserved death. Granted he was a good lad. Just had a stupid thrill. Serves him right for driving like an asshat.
