How fitting, one girl gets hit with a falling AC unit and the girl next to her kept her "cool" amid how close it came of being her. |

Re: Female Student Killed by Falling Air Conditioner During Installation in Taiwan
Holly crap! Height H of a storey is about 4.72 m in standard buildings H=4.72m x 17=72.4m g=9.8 m/s^2 v= square root (2gH) v= 37.67 m/s KE= 1/2 mv^2 KE= 1/2 30Kg x37.67^2 m/s Considering KE= 21285.43 Newtons To calculate the impact force: Average impact force times distance traveled after impact = change in KE Guessing the AC unit dug into her skull five centimeters: Therefore: Average impact force =KE/depth of penetration Average impact force = 21285.43N/.05 m penetration Average impact force =425,708.67 N Converting Newtons to Kg 425,708.67N x 0.10197 kg/N = 43,409.51 Kg The equivalent weight of that 30Kg air conditioning unit translates to roughly 43,409.51 Kg of force crushing her if we consider the average height of a storey at about 4.26 meters times 17 storeys. |

Re: Female Student Killed by Falling Air Conditioner During Installation in Taiwan
Cool! And here is an attempt at super slomo Kill-O-Vision™ Unfortunately, as is usually the case, there are not nearly enough frames to get a credible slomo from this angle. There is literally just one frame from the point the AC unit enters frame to the point it is crushing her skull out of existence. Also, it looks like this was an interlaced video camera, but without the camera original, I can't deinterlace it to rescue the 60fps fields... |
