Unless it's in reverse which automatically make a beeping sound, i think you just have to beep when crossing intersections where people can show up at the last second like in this video. Employee are also told to be careful for lift at intersections and look before crossing the path of a lift. Both probably made their own mistakes.

the sound of a reverse siren can be quite easily blocked out when you hear it so often, it doesn't excuse stupid cunts walking out in front of them, but it happens more often than you think. im also a UK resident.
