when someone is raped it doesnt just affect them for the duration of the crime, its with them for life and it will /can tarnish relationships and prevent the victim from being able to have a physical relationship. Rape isnt exclusively about sex without consent, physical scars heal but the emotional ones are reborn every nite.

.... Wait.... didn't people get shot for stealing a horse back then?????? You presume to think that just because our "founding fathers" have this wonderful image portrayed of them that NOTHING horrible happened when they were "in power"??? Please.
Our world has no "dignity" never has... never will. We each have our own horrible thoughts that live in the dark places in our mind. ALL of us.
It's just that some of us are better at tuning them out.
Look at all of the murders and rapes that were commited upon the innocent during "The Crusades".... ALL in the name of god. All of the victims of the Salem Witch Trials... All in the name of god. Death is just that.... death
DO not presume to make us a humans in the 21st century any better than the previous centuries that followed before us.... There is even rape and incest mentioned in the bible.... Just because it exists does not make it right.... but each generation of us deal with crime differently and to varying degrees. One generation is no better or no worse than the next.
Look at our society NOW... Look at what is acceptable now... in 2009. You would have NEVER seen unmarried people living together, or so many teenage mothers in 1950.
Times change.... Punishment changes as well. No one will remember these people in 100 years except in the files of criminal history... they will disappear along with everyone else.
It doesn't matter. Not a very nice thought... But it doesn't. Never has. never will..
