Re: Elderly Couple in Car Turn into Crash Test Dummies
He looked right and left, but that black car T-boned them from the passenger side...look at the woman's reaction to seeing the car coming. Not sure the driver would have had enough time to avoid the collision. And yeah, looks like a taxi sitch to me, too. Cheers! |

Ironically the further he was from the impact, the worse the driver's injuries. She had him to cushion and absorb the impact on her.

Re: Elderly Couple in Car Turn into Crash Test Dummies
This brings back a memory of a horrible crash I experienced Halloween 2014. Luckily the air bags did protect me going from 50 to 0 in an instant. I was a passenger and my friend driving ass-ended a dumbass tow truck parked in the left lane with no lights on or cones out.

Re: Elderly Couple in Car Turn into Crash Test Dummies
It looks like he may have hit his head on the front corner of the passenger door near the handle/window or somewhere on the dashboard in front of her. We do see some posturing on the right side of his body (his right hand curls in on itself). There's 2 types of posturing that are pretty common and his is the type with the generally better survival rate with good and prompt medical care (still less than 40% though) BUT his spine had to be pretty well fucked and the 2nd jerk after the initial hit was probably the coup de grace. When he got forced back into his own chair, the back of his head where his brain stem is located, hit the headrest...hard, so if he managed to survive the first hit, he was asparagus by the 2nd. His body protected the passenger from more serious injury though, silver lining? |

Damn, 40% survival rate with his posturing? That is even a worse outcome than I expected. Are you a trauma / ER doctor or surgeon?

Re: Elderly Couple in Car Turn into Crash Test Dummies
At the very end, she is probably yelling "youl hit us, we didn't hit youl!" I see Chinese in Chicago yelling like that after non-injury accidents. They can't just shut up and let the insurance companies handle it.

Re: Elderly Couple in Car Turn into Crash Test Dummies
Weird accident and outcome. He is wearing a seat belt and it did fuck all to protect him. They were hit from the passenger side and it appears he breaks the passenger window with his head (see attached screen grab). At the end, the top of his head appears to have some major cuts / damage. The passenger doesn't appear to have a belt on, but escapes relatively unscathed despite being next to the door that was hit. The car that hit them first is very crumpled. Maybe the first collision pushed them into the oncoming lane when they got hit a second time.
