Re: Deputy Dinkheller Gunned Down by M1 Carbine rifle
A surprising amount of cops can't shoot well when they need to. I've read extensively on this case and Dinkheller was one of the good cops. He was also too nice for the job though. He waited so long to fire because some others at his department as well as he himself had once been disciplined for reaching for their guns too fast (Dinkheller never shot anyone but had aimed at a suspect once). But yeah, once the guy refused to step away from the truck/drop the gun he should have been shot dead. But Dinkheller wasn't cut out for the job and everything left him when confronted with a real situation and it got him killed. |

Re: Deputy Dinkheller Gunned Down by M1 Carbine rifle
The guy had been doing waaaaaay over the speed limit on the highway and was driving dangerously. Dinkheller pursued and the guy lead him off the highway to a back road. He probably lead him there to shoot him to be honest, Brannan has mental issues and like a lot of vets with PTSD was given fuck all for treatment when he got back home. |

Re: Deputy Dinkheller Gunned Down by M1 Carbine rifle
A typical knee jerk reaction. The answer is " because there will always be people with evil intent that will find a way to procure such hardware no matter what feel good nonsense laws are passed. And the rest of us have a right to not be at a disadvantage and as a result be at the mercy of such scum" I've been a cop for 2 decades and I know first hand that scum prey on unarmed victims. Good people will also always outnumber the bad. As for the cop haters out there, maybe its your own conduct that caused a negative encounter...food for thought

I normally stay as far away as possible from cops, but you sound like one that doesn't have a power-trip problem. On top of that, it also sounds like you have common sense and think for yourself. We need more cops like you around and we'd be a much better place.

Re: Deputy Dinkheller Gunned Down by M1 Carbine rifle
I appreciate that a lot. I assure you the bad ones are very rare but they do get excessive play in the media which skews the perception. I've seen countless examples of the people I work with quietly doing little things for the public that makes me proud. I've also seen relatively few things that the bad eggs do that make me red with anger and shame. You sound like a common sense type so I urge you not to jump to conclusions. Judging the many by the actions of a few are big mistakes both cops and the public make. One saying I always think of is 'let cooler heads prevail'
