Re: Deputy Dinkheller Gunned Down by M1 Carbine rifle
I believe Brannon was legitimately mentally ill. I’m not saying the cop deserved to be killed either. Dinkheller was the first to fire, and I do believe a combat vet may instinctively return fire. Brannon was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and was 100% disabled from PTSD. Brannon suffered greatly from his combat experience and was remorseful. Just not sure death penalty was appropriate in his case. If mental illness is to be considered, which it is, Brannon was indeed mentally ill at the time of the shooting. Maybe life sentence would have been more appropriate, and I am very pro death penalty.
