Re: Deputy Dinkheller Gunned Down by M1 Carbine rifle

I thought it was a Howitzer

You know I hate to say this because I hate Andrew Brannan with all my heart

But im willing to bet if Brannan had wheeled out a Howitzer that day I bet he could have used it effectively

Tacitly speaking Brannan is any officers worst nightmare come true (as we all have seen) seeing this as a military type situation instead of a traffic stop/speeding ticket situation

The two factors that gave Brannan the utmost advantage are

1. No fear of death or being shot/shot at

2. Combat training and front line experience

The only chance I think Dinkheller really had was if he had jumped back in his cruiser thinking that Brannan was going to drive off and then saw him getting his gun ready and saw that it was a rifle and threw it in reverse ducked down and got the hell out of dodge

Brannan was hit one time

Dinkheller was hit 11 times

I always listen to the gunfire and in Dinkhellers state of panic (which im sure I would be in as well and shooting like crazy) the second time Brannan is walking and firing towards him on the drivers side he unloads his clip as fast as possible (as I sure I would do as well after not even hitting him a single time) and im sure he is either trying to retreat to the rear or under his car so im sure he is just wildly firing and praying to get a hit and stop this guy

Brannan on the other hand fires at a pace that allows him to re-aim every single shot, watch his M1 kick while he walks and fires. He very well could just be shooting like crazy like Dinkheller

But his training kicked back in he became that War Machine, ducking, bobbing and weaving, advancing when he knew Dinkheller was reloading, jumping up in the air when he began to advane to see how far back behind passenger door Dinkheller is, and advancing with no fear or hesitation

Thats what makes it such a frighting thing to watch

The shot that broke Brannans driver side window missed his head by 1/2 an inch (I have to check my files for the court record) but he just missed him (I believe Brannan said he felt the bullet and thought the top of his head had been grazed and a fragment had broke the window

Had Kyle Dinkhellers shot hit Brannan in the head before Brannan advanced he would be alive today

As soon as Brannan advanced it was over

RIP Kyle

Roger that..

Shitty predicament none the less. He could have used non lethal force on the perp, but hestitated..

I think the perp would have had problems retrieving his weapon in the truck if he was being tazzed, blinded by pepper spray, or knocked silly with an baton..

Once that weapon is brandished.. Game on mother fucker.. Center of mass double tap.. Game over.. Officer goes home to family..

Re: Deputy Dinkheller Gunned Down by M1 Carbine rifle

Oh I agree for sure, when he first rushed him he should have pepper sprayed him (they had not issued Tasers back in 1998 to his department)

Its hard to see on this video in the thread but I have seen a clear version that had a widescreen and you can see Dinkheller with his Asp on his shoulder in a kind of cocked position right before Brannan heads back to his truck

I have to find the file on Brannans trial on my computer because I hate going from memory but I believe Brannan said when he rushed Dinkheller he threw a punch and missed and Dinkheller already had pulled out his Asp and struck Brannan in the shoulder and thats when he decided to go back to his truck and get his M1

When I find the file I will post what Brannan said, but why didnt Dinkheller apply that Asp until Brannan was on the ground complying?

We will never know, but once he rushed Dinkheller with his fists clenched he deserved as many Asp blows to the head that it took to comply

Hindsight is 20/20, I always think to myself about these officers in large rural areas that have so much ground to cover alone and how backup is always miles and miles away

I wish his back up was only a minute away, I always think that when I watch this video

Re: Deputy Dinkheller Gunned Down by M1 Carbine rifle

The asp is very useful.. Not suppose to hit anyone in the neck or face.. Only muscle mass.. A few blows with a baton / PR-24 would have worked too... Definately pepper spray would have made the perp very inaccurate.. Pepper spray in conjunction with the asp/baton would have absolutely been appropriate. Once apprehended, the poloice would have seen the loaded carbine..

And now you fucks who bash American cops see why you're wrong. America may have trigger happy cops, but one thing we have a lot of is fucking crazy idiots who have guns nobody needs. This video is one of the most disturbing and sad I've ever seen. That fucker in the truck should be slowly and violently killed in front of his family.

Re: Deputy Dinkheller Gunned Down by M1 Carbine rifle

Yeah man I was thinking the same thing when I saw Brannan duck his head in that split second the driver side window breaks, I thought "Dayum, how close was that bullet!"

But to say that Brannan got shot in the stomach, he didn't show any signs of injury or pain. I've heard that being shot in the stomach is one of the most painful places to be shot.

It seems that as soon as Brannan starts walking back to his truck, he's decided he's gonna kill Dinkheller.

It really shows this nutcase was a battle-hardened war veteran, and was ready for a fire fight.

Re: Deputy Dinkheller Gunned Down by M1 Carbine rifle

But to say that Brannan got shot in the stomach, he didn't show any signs of injury or pain. I've heard that being shot in the stomach is one of the most painful places to be shot.

If you pause it at 2:43 you can see a slight sign of pain on his face and of course he grabs his stomach and stumbles back while his gun drops only being held by one hand

But it didnt stop him or even really slow him down because the two head shots were the last two shots Brannan fired AFTER Brannan was hit

The first head shot is right afer Branna is shot you can tell because Dinkheller stops screaming

The second head shot you see Brannan leaning way over the car hood you cant see on the video but Brannan leaned in between the open drive side door and stretched his arms until end barrel of his M1 was up against Dinkhellers right eye and screamed "Die Fucker!" and pulls the trigger for the final shot

I looked all morning through my files for the interview with Brannan where he answers all the questions that detectives had about the stuff you couldnt see on camera

Like when Brannan first rushes him he was behind the driver side door and then scrambled to the back of the patrol car, Brannan said (not exact words im going from memory) he was trying to reload but stopped reloading to take cover so I just kept advancing and when he got to the trunk area of his car I was all over him and he was crawling to get to the other side of the car and his head and most body were under his car so I just shot his exposed legs and his ass

He also said when he first came after Dinkheller before he got his gun and threw a punch at him and was hit with the Asp that he felt his Bullet Proof Vest so he knew that while his M1 could pierce the vest why even chance it so he took only shots he knew would connect to his arms, legs, ass and finally head

Brannan also said his first clip ran out way quicker then he expected and was still advancing around the rear passenger area when his clip ran out

He knew that Dinkheller would reload or had reloaded quickly (you can hear him reloading while Brannan is doing the same) so he went back to the rear area of his truck to change clips

After both of them reloaded Dinkheller had already been shot 4-5 times (again I need to find that fucking file!) and every time I see the comment "wow that cop screamed like a pussy what a bitch!" I shake my head like let me shoot you 11 times with an M1 and you not make a sound?

He didnt start screaming until after he was shot the first time

So that always pisses me off

That and he was a "Rookie" I have never heard of a Rookie who had 4 years on the force

And "He was to scared to even fire his gun!" guess who took the first shot? Dinkheller did

Did he wait to long? Yes

Was he scared? Yes

Should he, could he, would he.......? Monday Morning Quaterbacking a fallen officers actions and what was going through their heads at the time is counter productive

Using it as a training tool like Dinkhellers family wanted is very productive

I always hear officers say, "Every traffic stop I make I see and hear Dinkheller, or Coates, or Lunsford, or Vetter in my mind"

I need to find that old file so I can quote it instead of going by memory. I got it years and years ago from a friend of a friend

Oh yeah I see it now, he does grab his stomach. Damn, he took some damage and then went right back to firing back at Dinkheller. It really shows this guy really was programmed for war. He was probably a green beret or some shit.

Also noticed that Dinkheller was screaming again in pain towards the end, and then moments later, complete silence.

But this is every rookie cops' worst nightmare, dealing with a deranged war vet.

It would be pretty cool if you did find that footage of this whole thing. I'd like to see what else there was, such as the interview with Brannan, or a better copy of this incident. But thanks for the extra info anyway

I have seen the entire dash cam footage as well as the dash cam footage of the back up officers arriving

I will make a post going from memory on what else it shows (like a couple where the woman tries to help Dinkheller but really cant do anything because he was already dead so they just stay and she kind of comforts him in death, its very sad) but im trying to upload footage of Dinkhellers funeral with thoughts and reflections from family friends and fellow officers, so later today I will make a post

And the file I cant find is all word docs, the interview with Brannan is not a video but done by the detectives with a court reporter I would guess

I do have many different versions of Dinkheller video but they dont have the extra footage that I watched 10+ years ago, they vary in quality, I have one with subtitles, one with a wider screen, etc etc

Im going to post the other Dink video in the Police section as it really dont belong in death videos because 95% of the members will think its stupid and complain about how they didnt get to jerk off to a picture of Dinkhellers autopsy

So the members who are interested it will be a nice treat

Edit: He was not a rookie, Dinkheller had 4 years put in with the department, he was hired at 18 as he was an upstanding example as a young man

Also guess who the department shooting champion was?

Dinkheller
