He really should have. Strange how distinct the difference is between humans, and subhumans. The cop could have ended that guy's life, and by all rights should have. He'd have had no problem and went home for certain. Even when his life hung in the balance, he considered the criminal's life completely valuable.

The subhuman, was probably going to get a ticket, or at very worst get a bit of time in jail. Rather than play it cool so as to not arouse any more suspicion, and just get through it, he decided his moment was more valuable than another man's life, that man's family's lives, murdered him brutally and ended up on death row.

While I wish for the cop and his family that he killed that piece of shit as procedure dictated he do, I have nothing but admiration for someone who values human life that much. In the end it bit him in the ass and put him in the ground, but if more people were like that mentally, the world would be a lot better.

The deputy didnt use escalation of force:
-He could have pepper sprayed him first when the perp was returning to the vehicle..
-He could have used a baton or tazer to subdue his perp till he had back up arrive.
-He could have shot the perp as soon as the weapon was brandished.

The deputy has his civic duty to protect and serve. When someone is going to brandish a deadly weapon and may potentially kill others in the process, the liability is completely obvious, even if the traffic stop is completely routine..

I feel for the deputy and his family, but the deputy should have thought about his safety first
