There were lots of things that could have happened. But chances are that would have had the same result. The whole time he was getting in, putting it in gear, etc. as fast as that can be done, it's still plenty of time for the asshole to take aim and kill him. His best bet would have been to shoot the guy as soon as the weapon was shown and it was clear he was about to use it.

Very disturbing video and sound. I agree to a certain point that the officer was too reluctant to take action, killing the vet, but its just curing the symptoms killing all the vietnam-vets. Too many of them came back as nervous wrecks without any healthcare taking care of them.The same happens in the middle east just now! We have to take more care of the boys coming home from the war.
