Re: Corvette Z06 Show Off Pays the Price.

in dry weather, unless the tyres are worn down to the canvas, bald tyres are better than brand new ones

the only reason tyres have tread (and therefore less surface area) is to dissipate standing water on the road, which in turn means the tyre is directly on the road, and not water

without tread, they have more surface area and therefore more grip - hence why racing cars use slick tyres

it is hard to tell from the video, but it almost looks like only one wheel was spinning which is surprising . . . still a dick move even if it was mechanical, but the lack on tread on the tyres would not have caused the accident

Re: Corvette Z06 Show Off Pays the Price.

LsA is essentially an ls3 supercharged. One of my favorite production blocks besides the Ls9.

Ls8 was never a code designation for Chevrolet.
I know.

My motor wasn't a Chevrolet motor. It was a stroker build made with approximately 50% Chevy parts. Everything that could be made was made by my dad. He was a machinist for a pharmaceutical company for 30 years. And his friend, also a machinist for Case.

I'm not a big motorhead. I know more than most, but not enough to be a mechanic. There's a reason they called it an LS8. I just don't remember why that was.

The car was too loud for my neighborhood so it's my brother's car now.

WOW, some serious misinformation in this thread. Bunch of Prius, moped and Corolla drivers in here.

"Bald tires" giving BETTER traction than treaded?

Tires are made of a mixture of compounds. The carcass near the belts is much harder than the tread portions, regardless of street vs race tire.

A C7 ZO6 Corvette has enough power to spin the tires at nearly any speed, even FREEWAY speeds. Even with the BEST tires you can buy. Mine (C6 Z06 with a TVS2300) will, with a R888R!

This idiot turned off all of the traction control, yet didn't know how to drive. Had nothing to do with the car, 100% driver error.

Re: Corvette Z06 Show Off Pays the Price.

Clearly you don't know what you're talking about. I've owned a few rear wheel drive cars with horsepower. I've owned an SRT8 392 Challenger 485 hp.
Slow. Those cars are so heavy 485hp is about a 14 second quarter mile at best. My stock, automatic, 1988 Corvette did that.

A 79 Camero with an LS8 small block supercharged. Around 500 hp.
"CAMARO". Calling BS, there's no such thing as an LS-8! There is an LSA (which I own) and an LS-9 (C6 ZR-1) which, if you owned, you would know what its called. This calls into question anything you post...

And this is my baby I'll never sell. Charger SRT8 SuperBEE with a supercharger. Also around 500hp. I can have it tuned to 550 if I want.
Those are rookie numbers for a blower car. What blower did you put on it?

I also have a sport bike that's top speed is 190 mph.
190mph speedo doesn't mean it will reach that...lol what year/make/model?

Which rides on minimal tread, and gets more grip the less it has.
Huh?

I spend a lot of money on tires . I know my tire guys well.
But you clearly don't know tires as well as you think you do and/or your tire guys don't.

I was just having my Hoosier, "Drag bracket radials" mounted a few days ago. Worked directly with the manufacturer on tire selection. My wife's daily has Toyo Proxes R888R road race tires (345/30r19) and my LT-4 Vette runs the Nitto NT05R drag radials. I can assure you these 3 tires are not only top of the line, but also vastly different in carcass, composition and tread. You can see, hear and FEEL the differences.

bullshit...racing tyres are a completely different type of compound which allows them to be driven without tread...road tyres are NOT stickier without tread.... you ass

Re: Corvette Z06 Show Off Pays the Price.

"Chocolate slide" straight into Hell. Would be more satisfying if the corvette exploded in flames like Buford Pusser's 1974 corvette. Was the corvette trying to make a left turn at the intersection?

Good thing a heavy pickup was there to stop the corvette's crime spree, a family in a lesser weight vehicle might have been killed.
Thanx you little Thrumpkinite
